HOW MUCH DOES A LOGO COST?

This week at HM&D there were four logo requests that came in, each of those requests started with the exact same question: “How much will a logo cost?” It’s a great question, and the answer will always warrant additional conversation, because logo design prices do have a range.

Whether you are a start up, small business, or large and established, a logo is probably one of the first things that you seek to have done. A professional logo will build awareness, trust, and act as the base of your brand. But how much should it cost?

Here’s my answer

Every logo will start at around $150. It will depend on where your quotes come from, but this is typically the base price for a professional graphic designer to create anything. This price will usually include two to five simple logo designs to choose from, and one to two rounds of basic revisions, from there the cost will rise.

Simple logo versus complex logo

A simple logo will sometimes be a typographic one, simple fonts, clean lines, solid, and one to two colors. On the other hand once you add more dimensions, pictures, and conceptual ideas the cost of your logo will go up. The reason is straight forward, the more complex the logo, the more hours and rounds of revisions it will require. The average hourly rate is somewhere between $25-50.

If your logo has many design elements, dimensions, and colors, you’ll want to start tacking on additional hours to your cost, expect a complex logo to range $300-600.

The Verdict

Your designer should ask you many questions that will help assess how long it will take to complete your project. After a series of questions you’ll receive an estimate based on the amount of hours your project will take. Keep in mind that if your logo design changes during the process, you could receive a change order that tacks on more hours and increases the cost of your job. The best way to lower the cost of your logo is to have a solid idea of what you want from the start, know your colors, concepts, and bring several logos from other companies that inspire you.
